Who:

The Upstate New York Developer Community

What:

Hack Upstate is a weekend hackathon that happens twice a year (i.e. Fall & Spring) where developers, innovators and designers from Upstate New York come together in Syracuse, NY, share ideas, form teams and build awesome products!

Theme:

Open Hackathon i.e. people can build whatever they want using whatever tools they'd like.

Where:

The Technology Garden
235 Harrison Street
Syracuse, NY 13202
Note: Teams are allowed to participate virtually, however they will not be able to demo their products; consequently will not be eligible to win prizes.

Why:

Hack Upstate intends to unite and facilitate collaboration among the greater Upstate New York hacker community. In doing so, we aim to contribute to the growth of Upstate New York's technology sector, and to create a robust network of technologists and regional technology companies.

When:

Saturday October 12th and Sunday October 13th

Schedule:

Saturday October 12th

  • 11am: Doors open
  • 12pm: Idea pitching and team formation
  • 12:30pm: Commence hacking

Sunday October 13th

  • 11:59am: Cease hacking
  • 12pm: Guest speaker TBD
  • 12:30pm: Demos, pitches and presentations
  • 1:30pm: Awards ceremony

Rules:

No code can be written until 12:30pm Saturday October 12th

Jim is a doer who is passionate about identifying challenging problems and adeptly leveraging technology to address them. As Senior Partner, Director of Interactive Services, Jim is EMA's first-class technical guru responsible for strategic software implementation, architecture design and systems engineering training

Kishor Bagul

Chief Technology Officer, New York State

Kishor was recently appointed Chief Technology Officer (CTO) at the NYS Information Technology Services (ITS) where he acts as the principal technology advisor to the NYS CIO and chairs the Technology Governance Board on matters pertaining to enterprise architecture. In this capacity, Kishor aligns the State's technology vision and architecture with business strategy, leads all aspects of developing and implementing a State enterprise architecture and technology standards in support of the State's technology and business related needs.

Gordon Zheng

Developer Evangelist, Dwolla

Gordon Zheng is a Developer Evangelist at Dwolla. He is a lifelong hacker, engineer, and tinkerer. He's passionate about building things with a meaningful impact and enjoys writing about himself in third person.
