Gimme-Shelter is an interface for non-profit organizations to send out text message alerts to homeless individuals in their effective areas.
The homeless can subscribe to this service by texting their current location to (720)-961-4567. After subscribing, individuals can also request directions to the nearest soup kitchen or shelter by texting "Food" or "Room", respectively.
Currently, there is a government program that provides free cell phones and basic plans to low-income people through companies such as Assurance Wireless, ReachOut Wireless, and SafeLink Wireless. Gimme-Shelter seeks to maximize the potential of this program, making it easier for shelters and soup kitchens to reach out to their communities and helping the homeless access the resources available to them under limited internet access conditions.
